When it comes to school mascots, you might not think of an object like a cowboy hat, but it's actually a significant part of the history for the Texas School for the Deaf (TSD). Until 2005, the TSD Ranger mascot often featured a cowboy hat, along with boots, a badge, and even guns, symbolizing a rugged and adventurous spirit 🤠. However, with new legislation focusing on safe schools and bullying prevention, TSD decided to update their mascot to a more positive and motivating image – a horse named Ranger. Even though the cowboy hat is no longer the main mascot, it remains a cherished part of TSD's history and is still celebrated by many alumni. So, the next time you see a cowboy hat, remember it's not just a fashion statement, but also a piece of school spirit 💪.
